THE INTERPRETATION OF HARD X-RAY POLARIZATION MEASUREMENTS IN SOAR ,FLARES John Leachl Center for Space Science and Astrophysics

چکیده
We review recent observations of polarization of moderately hard X-rays in solar flares and compare them with the predictions of recent detailed modeling of hard X-ray bremsstrahlung production by non-thermal electrons. We find that the recent advances in the complexity of the modeling lead to h substantially lower predicted polarizations than in earlier models and more i fully highlight now various parameters play a role in determining the polari. a i zation of the radiation field. The new predicted polarizations are comparable to those predicted by thermal modeling of solar flare hard X-ray production, and both are in agreement with the observations. In the light of these results, we propose new polarization observations with current generation

The Effect of Solar Particles in the Choice of Alloy Shielding in a Satellite
The damages and logical failures in dierent parts of a satellite may occur during a solar event, when a bulk of solar energetic particles approaching the Earth. During solar events, these particles may cause extensive damages which are even permanent (hard errors). A way of damage reduction is designing a proper coating as the fuselage. As protons are the major component of solar particles and ...
متن کاملNuSTAR detection of high-energy X-ray emission and rapid variability from Sagittarius A flares
Sagittarius A⋆ harbors the supermassive black hole that lies at the dynamical center of our Galaxy. Sagittarius A⋆ spends most of its time in a low luminosity emission state but flares frequently in the infrared and X-ray, increasing up to a few hundred fold in brightness for up to a few hours at a time. The physical processes giving rise to the X-ray flares are uncertain. Here we report the de...
متن کاملThe Log-normal Distributions of Physical Quantities of Flare associated Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs), and Flare/CME Model of Gamma-ray Bursts
We investigated the statistical distributions of physical quantities of solar flares and associated coronal mass ejections (CMEs). We found that the distributions of the X-ray peak fluxes of CME-related flares, their time intervals, and speeds of associated CMEs are in good agreement with log-normal distributions. One possible interpretation of this is that only large energetic mass ejections c...
متن کاملGRB 060714: No Clear Dividing Line Between Prompt Emission and X-ray Flares
The long gamma-ray burst GRB 060714 was observed to exhibit a series of five X-ray flares beginning ∼ 70 s after the burst trigger T0 and continuing until ∼ T0 + 200 s. The first two flares were detected by the Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) on the Swift satellite, before Swift had slewed to the burst location, while the last three flares were strongly detected by the X-Ray Telescope (XRT) but onl...
متن کاملRHESSI as a Hard X-Ray Polarimeter
Although designed primarily as a hard X-ray imager and spectrometer, the Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI) is also capable of measuring the polarization of hard X-rays (20–100 keV) from solar flares. This capability arises from the inclusion of a small unobstructed Be scattering element that is strategically located within the cryostat that houses the array of nine germaniu...
